The Barnett play has been called the largest natural gas field onshore in the United States. It covers over 5,000 square miles in Texas. Because of the rock and sand that is around the hydrocarbon
deposits, this is also one of the most difficult plays to extract. Luckily, with the technology that we have today, such as hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, we are able to get more of these resources than ever. Drillers on this play are able to produce about 4.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas and they get about 15,500 barrels of crude oil each day.
